Runway Report: Michael Kors Big Sur, Big City Fall 14

Michael Kors - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014

Laid-back California ease was the theme at the Michael Kors show on Wednesday. His “ Big Sur” collection brought a palette of soft browns, mauve’s and taupes with gypsy skirts and low slung belts. And because his woman is the Haute woman she carelessly tosses her fox dyed stole around her neck or puts on a mink pull over with her jeans. Skirts were longer around mid calf and nubby cashmeres were worn with slouchy wide leg trousers.

The front row was lined with pretty young things like Frieda Pinto, Blake Lively, Rose Byrne and Liz Golden. Michael Douglas was swept to his seat by someone as if he just came from backstage with his longish salt and pepper hair looking very “ Big Sur”.

He has tapped into the mass culture maybe in part due to his TV stardom but TV personality or not, he is the quintessential American designer. He takes us on a journey to a lifestyle that we want. The easy breezy luxe life where there is no need to treat your handbag like a precious object—let the fringe fly and give it a good squeeze. There is more where that came from and the suede is too delicious not to. Very Haute.
