Mel Brooks’ cult comedy “The Producers” won a record-breaking 12 Tony awards after it debuted in 2001. In 2005, a film version was released, but fans and critics stayed loyal to the real thing. Aspen Community Theatre has too, and the troupe selected the musical for its annual production this year. The plot revolves around two Broadway producers who scheme to get rich by overselling a Broadway flop–only it’s a smashing success. Comedy, satire and antics ensue.
ACT’s “The Producers” runs Nov. 8, 9, 13-16 at 7 p.m. along with two Sunday matinees on Nov. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. All performances are at the Aspen District Theatre, and tickets are available at Aspen Show Tix.
