‘Lion King’ is First Broadway Show to Gross $1 Billion

The hit Broadway musical, Disney’s “Lion King” is well on its way to becoming the first show to reach $1 billion in sales. The family friendly musical was just shy of the billion-dollar marker after their last October 6^th show did curtain call.

The musical recently snatched the title of 5^th longest running show of all time from “Les Miserables” and shows no sign of slowing down. After a 16-year run on Broadway, “The Lion King” still plays to a packed house every night. “This humbling milestone is a testament to the vision and artistry of [director] Julie Taymor,” said producer and Disney Theatrical Group president Thomas Schumacher to Hollywood Reporter. Clearly, this classic is here to stay!
