I watch a certain cartoon that features two best friends and one of their funny exchanges, and it’s basically their philosophy, is “homies helping homies.” Sure its slang but the general principle is that they care about each other’s well-being and want to all they can to help one another out. That same philosophy is being used in the restaurant world with UN86’D. It’s a charity organization that helps restaurants in need with a monetary donation. It’s basically chefs and restaurant professionals helping one another, in a sense “homies helping homies.” The latest example is happening this weekend when TWO (1132 West Grand) welcomes local chefs for a pig dinner to benefit UN86’D.
Chef Tom Van Lente at TWO has announced the menu and helping him with preparation will be Chefs Derek Simcik of Atwood Cafe, Aaron Thebault of Girl & The Goat, and John Manion of La Sirena Clandestina. They will be breaking down a whole Mangalista pig, and each one will present a course for dinner. This is all going down September 8th at 6:30PM (Doors Open at 5). If you would like to not only eat the spectacular food of these great chefs, but also help some “homies,” then purchase a ticket ($90 each) and make the reservation by calling TWO at 312-624-8363. And yes I could have explained UN86’D without a cartoon reference, but where’s the fun in that.
