Fashion Week: Front Row at Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang is one of the most coveted shows of NYFW. He’s the guy who makes a tee shirt look cool, after all. I was overly excited when the silver invitation was dropped in my mailbox. Little did I know, it gets much much better. Turns out, I was seated front row at the show. To my left hand side were Derek Blasberg, Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Stephen Gan, Glenda Bailey, Joe Zee, Robbie Myers. The view from across is even more unreal; Kanye West, Solange Knowles, and Terry Richardson.

At Pier 94, Wang brought us all back to the nineties; the time when the word “teenager” could not even be used to describe me. “That was the height of me in high school, reading and obsessing over [magazines] and being a fashion geek,” he said before his show today. The music used in the show really amped up my 90s excitement. Remember when we thought the logo and the crop top were the coolest thing ever? Let me tell you, it will be because Alexander Wang said so.

In this collection, the ALEXANDER WANG logo can be found everywhere; from the glove Hanne Gaby wore, the leather coat Fei Fei Sun was rocking, to the shut-it-down dress worn by Joan Smalls. A lot of pieces were inspired by menswear; from the boyish jacket to the oversized coat. One thing I can assure you; although Wang has spent half of his time in Paris, he’s still the coolest kid in the block in New York.
