It will the first of its kind for the South Bay beach town, though its creation is a long way off.
A company called Strand and Pier Holding purchased the beachfront property where a series of restaurant’s including the now-closed Mermaid restaurant used to be in a joint venture with Beverly Hill’s Bolour Associates and Portland’s Provenance Hotels.
The entitlement process has just begun, however, and work on the hotel isn’t expected to begin until 2015.
Until then, the area’s only luxury property, Manhattan Beach’s Shade Hotel, will remain without competition.
