Haute Eat: Cafe Habana

The Latin-American hot spot from downtown New York has arrived in downtown Dubai. Café habana New York boasts full capacity by day and night along with reviewer accolades and celebrity sightings. It was inspired by a storied Mexico City luncheonette, where legend has it Che Guevara and Fidel Castro plotted the Cuban Revolution. Café Habana Dubai is a much larger version than its American counterpart and has joined the busy the restaurant scene at Souk Al Bahar.

Diners can indulge in Cuban and Mexican cuisine along with creative cocktails, refreshing mocktails and wines from Latin America. For starters, I recommend the grilled corn Mexican style, which can be ordered off the cob, served in divine cortija cheese and a touch of lime. This goes well with crispy corn tortilla chips, although you will have to save some of the addictive chips for dipping into the delicious homemade guacamole.

To follow, I recommend the Baja style fish tacos. These are made of beer battered fish delicately mixed with cabbage and sour cream enveloped in a corn taco. Another favorite are the enchiladas Suizas which comprise grilled chicken enchiladas topped with a tangy cream sauce.

Hungry shoppers can pop over from The Dubai Mall for a quiet lunchtime treat. Evening diners will experience a very different vibe with a live DJ and busy bar. Cafe Habana is a great new addition to downtown Dubai’s culinary landscape.
