Haute Eat: The Spice Market at the W Hotel Doha
The trendy W Hotel Doha is home to the Southeast Asian-inspired Spice Market restaurant. Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten impresses diners with a fusion of the region’s favorite flavors complete with a modern twist.
The stylish venue features a setting of round tables under a cluster of custom lanterns which give off a warm and exotic ambience. The venue encourages bigger groups with dishes placed at the center of the table to share. Our meal began with a selection of starters including the tuna tartare with spicy radish and ginger marinade; a deliciously crispy and refreshing Omani lobster cake with avocado cucumber and lime and an assortment of fresh and flavorsome sushi. To follow, we enjoyed a tangy mango salad, a char-grilled chicken with kumquat lemongrass dressing which we found a bit bland compared with the rest of the dishes and the specialty soy glazed short ribs that were divine. Marinated in celery, jalapeno and apple, the short ribs easily melted in my mouth.
Spice market offers a very reasonably priced three-course express lunch menu with the choice of either Japanese or fusion cuisine. Night owls will be delighted with the cocktails, and diners can opt for a set menu to ensure they taste the spice market favorites. Decadent and exotic, the Spice Market is not to be missed. The venue would be a great addition to the Dubai culinary landscape.
