If you’re a fan of Vermeer and don’t feel like jetting to Europe to view his iconic Woman in Blue Reading a Letter, you’re in luck: the painting has made its debut in LA.

The painting has landed at The Getty for a rare, limited-time engagement before heading back to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, which is closed for renovations for the next five weeks.

The painting has had a world tour thus far, making stops in Shanghai and Sao Paolo.

The subject of the oil work is shrouded in mystery: historians have not been able to discern who the woman is, what the letter says, or whether or not she is pregnant behind her concealing outfit.

Woman in Blue Reading a Letter is available for viewing now until March 31 in the Getty’s East Pavilion.

It is the only Vermeer on exhibit in LA.
