X Games Gold Contender Elena Hight Takes on Fashion and the Planet

Snowboard superpipe gold-medal contender Elena Hight’s chance to shine is on Saturday, when she’ll battle defending champion Kelly Clark for the podium. But, off the hill one of her main passions is eco-conscious clothing made from Repreve. As one of the official sponsors for Winter X Games, in Aspen Jan. 24 through 27, Repreve-based products will keep athletes like Hight warm, and stylish.

Repreve uses recycled fibers from plastic bottles to create material that’s used in brands like Patagonia, North Face and even designer Lauren Conrad’s XO(eco) line. Signature green hats–to be handed at the X Games site at Buttermilk–are made from six recycled plastic bottles. To date, Repreve has reclaimed more than 629 million bottles which people have recycled.

As an official athlete for Repreve, Hight will be taking photos with fans on Sunday, Jan. 27 from 1 to 2:30 p.m at base of Buttermilk Mountain. Over the four-day X Games weekend, she’ll be promoting Repreve-based products and urging attendees to pledge to save more than 100,000 plastic bottles throughout the event.

“The environment plays such an important role in winter sports and we can help make a difference by recycling and choosing products made with Repreve,” said Elena Hight, in a prepared statement.  “Not many people know that Repreve is a recycled ingredient that makes so many of the clothes we buy eco-friendly. It’s really cool to know that the bottles we recycle at X Games Aspen could actually end up in my clothes.”

Hight is a two-time Olympian and a multi-X Games medalist in snowboard superpipe. The 23-year old will compete on Saturday at 9 p.m.
