Ron Howard Set to Direct Disney’s ‘Graveyard Book’?
Neil Gaiman’s children’s book, The Graveyard Book is getting ready to make a comeback with the help of Disney in hopes to breathe new life into it. The 2008 kids novel will be directed by Henry Selick as a stop-motion project. Despite initial development the project stopped due to the partnership ending between Selick and the studio. Sadly, a release date of October 2013 was already set prior to them parting ways.
Now in a means to create the Graveyard as a live action movie, Ron Howard is in talks to direct the film. As for production, Ben Browning and Gil Netter, producer of Life of Pi and Marley & Me will be producing.
Graveyard is a novel that takes place in a cemetery where a boy named Nobody Owens is raised by ghosts following the murder of his own family. As a teen, he is revisited by his family’s killer called “the Man Jack.”
This award-winning novel has broken a record for being the one work to win both the Carnegie and Newbery medals for best children’s book.
As Howard is in negotiations to direct, we can expect a new round of development for the movie, along with him overseeing the writing of a new script. It is also, possible that Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment and Howard may fall right into a producer role.
But for now, Howard is finishing up work on a racing biopic called Rush set to be released by Universal on Sept. 20, starring Chris Hemsworth.
