Suspended 200 meters above sea level, Burj Al Arab’s Skyview Bar is not only one of Dubai’s most lavish places to get drinks, it has one of the best panoramas of the city. Getting inside this coveted bar is a must for all visitors as well as residents of Dubai. While it might be too soon to call the Burj Al Arab historical, it certainly is now one of the city’s oldest landmarks and pivotal in terms of design and architecture. And with that, the Skyview Bar certainly reflects an era. What’s more is that in order to check out this stunning spot, you don’t have to reserve a room in the hotel, you can simply come on your own accord for a lunch, an afternoon tea or the evening, but be sure you book in advance.
I came with friends during the evening, and we were seated close enough to the window that it felt like we were on a ledge – just glass separated us from the stunning night sky and city down below. At once surreal and magical, a friendly waiter delivered a hefty menu with an abundance of different snacks and specialty drinks. He did advise us, though, to try some of the bar’s iconic drinks, one of which was The Perfect Ten. This refreshing cocktail is made with Tanqueray No. 10 gin and balanced with fresh blackberries and cucumber syrup which allows the mixture to illuminate the essence on the tongue. Delicious and so seemingly light and sweet that we could barely taste the gin, there was something was addictive about The Perfect Ten – the word “perfect” was in its title. We easily ordered another round while deciding on the rest of the dishes.
Our waiter assisted us once again as we struggled to decide on the hefty list of magnificent options. A selection of oysters came our way followed by a three-tiered tray of bite-sized delectable sandwiches and hors d’oeuvres. We were very pleased.
Still on the menu, we were captivated by the detailed work which was allocated to each drink, its purpose and month of the year in which it would be honored. There was a section entitled Spirit of the Month and then a list of each month of the year with its corresponding drink. There was also section named Legends of the Past, Present and Future – highlighting cocktails which have stood the test of time and have now become modern day classics.
Innovative, luxurious and extremely flavorful, the Skyview Bar is more than just part of one of Dubai’s oldest landmark – it is an iconic experience, if ever there was one.
