LA officially welcomes the arrival of NARS’ first West Coast flagship boutique at 8412 Melrose Ave. The legendary beauty brand kicked off its grand opening with a star-studded party this past Saturday which included songstress Mandy Moore, Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy; supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe.
“We knew from the start that we wanted to have a flagship in LA,” Louis Desazars, NARS CEO explains. “The makeup artist community is so important here, so it just made a lot of sense for us to make this our next store. And Melrose is the perfect place for us because we’re surrounded by boutiques that our customer shops at…We’re very proud to be here.”
The creative geniuses behind the 1,500-square-foot space included the creative director Francois Nars, French art director Fabien Baron and NARS founder, making this enormous store three times bigger than its first flagship store on Bleecker Street in New York City. The Melrose Avenue space features a Parisian vibe with high-gloss red showcases to match their Jungle Red Lipstick, black accents on a clean, white interior similar to the brand’s signature packaging, chevron-patterned hardwood floors, custom corian countertops, floor-to-ceiling mirrors with exclusive hidden illuminated frames, imported fireplace with Louis XVI-style moldings, a 200-suare foot private room in the back of the store exclusively for VIP guests and special events and a bookshelf full of great reads for sale and Mr. Nars’ personal archive to make the modernized look complete. The store is also equipped with six permanent makeup stations with personally trained makeup artists by of course, Mr. Nars himself.
While the store closes, NARS stylized films are projected from the front window display onto the street. Currently, the very same salute to the new NARS x Andy Warhol collection that is featured on in-store video screens is currently the short that is being projected from the front display. Many can look forward to the new NARS x Andy Warhol collection to debut on November 1st, but for now can enjoy shopping at the makeup brand’s first West Coast flagship store on Melrose.
