To know fashion photographer Tim Walker’s work is to love it. And what better way to celebrate this than with a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the making of his remarkable images? London’s Somerset House are honouring the famed photographer with the “Tim Walker: Story Teller” exhibit, opening on October 18th. Walker’s photography is well-known for its vivacity, abundance of color and, not least of all, humor. His work is instantly recognizable, and can be seen in the world’s leading magazines, including the American, British, French and Italian editions of Vogue, in Vanity Fair, W and in The New Yorker, to name just a few.
What is particularly interesting though is how Walker sets the scenes for his photos; the photographer is renowned for creating elaborate scenes from scratch, with a level of detail often compared to that of a film set. This exhibition is set to uncover the inspiration and anecdotes behind the incredible sets and photos.
A series of inspirational and influential films, curated by Walker himself, will also be part of the exhibition, including cult classics like La Belle at la Bete, The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death and Tim’s own feature The Lost Explorer. If you’re looking to do a little early Christmas shopping, you can pick up Thames & Hudson’s Story Teller by Tim Walker, which will feature more than 175 images, collages and snapshots from Walker’s personal archives.
“Tim Walker: Story Teller” runs from October 18th – January 27th in the East Wing Galleries of the Somerset House. Admission is free.
