Black Keys, Snoop Dogg Inaugurate Catalpa Music Festival This Weekend
After years of struggling to gain a foothold in New York, music festivals have taken place just about every week this summer. Add this weekend’s Catalpa bash to a list that includes Electric Daisy Carnival, Governors Ball and the Great GoogaMooga, and give it credit for what might be the most eclectic roster of music and art so far this festival revival season.
Catalpa takes over Randalls Island Saturday and Sunday, with headliners The Black Keys and Snoop Dogg capping off performances from leading names in indie rock (TV on the Radio, Matt and Kim, Cold War Kids), hip-hop (A$AP Rocky) and dance music (AraabMUZIK, Felix Da Housecat, Hercules and Love affair). In a small nod to Burning Man, the event will feature a pyrotechnic sculpture blasting 30-foot flame balls in the air as D.J.s spin inside the structure.
Two-day passes cost $179.99, while single day tickets go for $99.99. Should you be feeling generous, $10,000 will get you and up to nine of your friends a VIP cabana complete with hot tub.
