Haute Event: I’ll Have Another Trainer Cashes in His $20,000 Kentucky Derby Ticket

Mark Verge, Dan Shapiro and Doug O'Neill

Doug O’Neill, the thoroughbred horse trainer of this year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner I’ll Have Another, cashed in his winning ticket bet on his own horse for the 2012 Kentucky Derby at Primm Valley Resort on Monday morning.

Back in February, O’Neill wagered $100 at 200-1 odds on his prized horse, I’ll Have Another, at Lucky’s Race and Sports Book inside Primm Valley Resort. After his horse crossed the finish line in first place at the historic Churchill Downs Racetrack on May 5, his $100 quickly multiplied. On Monday morning, he redeemed his winning ticket for a grand total of $20,000 cash.

Following the redemption, O’Neill signed his winning ticket and memorabilia, and posed for pictures with onlookers. In attendance to support the trainer was Mark Verge, CEO of Santa Anita Park, and Dan Shapiro, director of marketing for Lucky’s Race & Sports Book.
