New York-based designer-artist Stephanie Hirsch’s work is being show at landmark London department store Harrods as part of a window display marking Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee. Hirsch, best known on this side of the pond for her irreverent canvases tweaking classic sayings–think “The Youth Will Set You Free”–in a setting of beads and embroidery, made a crown for the Harrod’s occasion that will be on display through June 15.
Hirsch notes that each of the 1,000 Swarovski crystals on the crown was individually applied with glue and a toothpick in a process that lasted 50 hours. Other designers contributing royal head wear to honor the Queen’s 60th year on the throne include Lanvin, Valentino and Bulgari.
