“One Thing That’s Green” Earth Day Event

100 trees will be sprouting in Long Island City thanks to 400 volunteers who participated in last weekend’s Earth Day “One Thing That’s Green” tree planting event.  The New York Restoration Project and its MillionTreesNYC initiative was a success as the weather was sunny, and the mood was upbeat.

The positive vibrations began with inspirational words by some of New York’s top elected officials including Carolyn B. Maloney, a member of Congress for the 14th Congressional District of New York, Michael Gianaris, New York State Senator from Astoria/LIC and Helen Marshall, the Queens Borough President.

The April 21 event in Queens was so much more than planting trees, Greg T from Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show played upbeat music and volunteers did warm up exercises to the music.  The day finished off strong with a performance from Jon McLaughlin singing tunes from his upcoming album “Promising Promises.”

The New York Restoration Project was also in partnership with JetBlue Airways, which had its own initiative to plant 83,000 trees on Earth Day.
