The 2014 Winter Olympics Host Sochi is preparing for a mind-blowing Winter Art Festival curated by Russian conductor and violist Yury Bashmet. For the festival, he has conjured up performances by world-famous violinist Maksim Vengerov, Serbian director and musician Emir Kusturica and his folk-rock Non Smoking Orchestra, and soprano Jessye Norman. Of course, Bashmet will be performing as well.
For its fifth time around, the Winter Art Festival is adventuring outside the realms of music, offering also some legendary ballet from the repertoire of Sergey Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, staged by Andris Liepa, and exhibitions and master-classes.
The festival begins Feb. 2 and will be open for two weeks.
