Fall Fancies: Activities and Explorations for the New Season

News | October 31, 2011

Fall is undoubtedly one of the most romantic seasons in NYC. The air is crisp and filled with the scent of pumpkin and hot chocolate. The leaves magically transform, and their colors delicately punctuate the sidewalks of the city.

When the leaves are rich and colorful, spend as much time as possible outside, enjoying the beautiful fall foliage. Behind the gates at St. Luke’s Church lies a hidden garden that provides the perfect respite from the busy city streets. Enjoy your afternoon coffee or hot chocolate on one of the many benches, as you take in the quiet calm of the fall air and the beauty of the birch trees on warmer days. St. Luke in the Fields Hidden Garden is located at 487 Hudson Street, between Christopher & Grove Streets. The one treat that is almost synonymous with fall is hot chocolate. Stop by the infamous City Bakery, 3 West 8th Street near Fifth Avenue, to experience one of New York’s best-known hot chocolates.

If you feel like taking a trip outside the city, try Masker Orchards, 45 Ball Road Warwick, or FishKill Farms, 9 Fishkill Farm Road, where you can go apple and pumpkin picking, or spend a day touring the orchards, shopping at the country store, or taking  advantage of other fun family activities the orchards have to offer. Stop by on a Saturday or Sunday in October for hayrides, a haunted house, face painting and live music.

Looking for a weekend-long adventure? Located in the heart of the Berkshires (16 Blantyre Road Lenox, Mass.), Blantyre offers tranquility, natural beauty and a picturesque landscape. Designed by Robert Warden Paterson in 1902, this timeless mansion is recognized as one of the finest hotels in the world, where guests can stay and experience the re-creation of life and service of a bygone era. Each of the 21 rooms has their own unique identity; enchanting art, fine fabrics and furnishings fill the rooms, which are hallmarks of this stunning mansion. The property features fine dining, an exemplary wine cellar, spa and 117 acres of breathtaking grounds to explore and enjoy including swimming, croquet, tennis, ice skating and walking trails. Perfect for a fall getaway!
