A vintage Mercedes-Benz 280-SL owned by actor John Travolta was stolen on a residential street in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reports. The car is estimated to be worth between $35,000 and $100,000.
The incident reportedly happened around 3:30 p.m. near the 1400 block of Berkeley Street. After parking his 1970 sports car there, Travolta walked to a nearby Jaguar dealership. (Hornburg of Santa Monica, a Jaguar dealership, is located approximately two blocks away from the 1400 block of Berkeley.)
As the story goes, when Travolta returned 10 minutes later, the car was gone.
The Santa Monica Police Department has classified the incident as a grand theft auto and is investigating.
It’s unclear whether the thief knew the car belonged to Travolta, who had his keys at the time of the incident.
