Bertarelli Billionaires Buy £100 Million Yacht

Britain’s richest woman, Kirsty Bertarelli, and her Swiss husband Ernesto just purchased a 96-meter, six-deck Vava II yacht for £100 million.

The Vava II is the largest yacht ever built in the United Kingdom and boasts six decks, lavish interiors, luxury guest cabins and a helicopter landing pad. The design of this yacht has been kept secret for over two years and it was built in Plymouth at the Devonport Dockyard. The super yacht is the 33rd largest yacht in the world.

Ernesto Bertarelli, 45, is a Swiss pharmaceuticals chief and is a twice winner of the prestigious America’s Cup yacht race. His worth is estimated at £6.8 billion, making him the richest man in the world and the fifth richest in the UK. His wife, Kirsty, is currently ranked the richest woman in the UK.

Vava II took more than 200 craftsmen over two years to build and it is an incredibly high-tech yacht that includes a fold-down beach club and a pool that can be varied in depth to cater for guest preferences.

Hampshire-based specialist Redman Whiteley Dixon designed the exterior portion of the yacht and interiors were styled by Remi Tessier. Detailed specifications for the incredible yacht have been kept tightly guarded during completion.

Managing Director, Stephen Hills, said the vessel was “an absolute credit to the capacity of the South West as a super yacht building location.”

Sea trials will begin next week to test the design of the boat.

Some reports indicate that the yacht may be chartered for part of the year to wealthy clients while it is not being used by the Bertarellis. It could cost ten of thousands of pounds per week to charter such a yacht and, if chartered, the Berarelli’s yacht could set a new standard in the rental market next year.
