2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 at Jay Leno’s Garage

Lamborghini President Stephan Winkelmann stopped by Jay Leno’s Garage with the 2012 Aventador LP700-4, which stands to be the new supercar king.

Each body part and component of the Aventador is new – no parts are interchangeable from previous models – from the 6.5-liter V12 boasting 700 horsepower to the light weight carbon fiber monocoque. This reduces the weight dramatically, about 200 pounds in comparison to its successor. Winkelmann also talked to Leno about the Aventador’s 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and top speed of 217 miles per hour.

Winkelmann said, “When we speak about supercars, we speak about design and performance, and this is really what this car is all about. We have three main ideas about design. It is always revolutionary but at the same time you have to recognize that it’s a Lamborghini, even if you don’t know what kind of model you have in front of you. It’s also always form follows function – so there’s no gimmick, it’s all needed. Then, the inspiration is coming from fighter jets. And this is what you see.”
