Jay-Z Rental to Sell for $31 Million

For sale: 4,825-square-foot, 76th-floor penthouse in an iconic New York building, with sprawling views of Central Park to the East and the River to the West. Three-bedroom, 6-bathroom, and a terrace off the master bedroom and great room. The perfect space for hip hop moguls and billionaire businessmen.

Too good to be true? Probably, seeing that it’s in contract to sell at $31 million to an Asian financier. At $6,400 per square foot, this deal will have the highest per square foot price ever for the Time Warner Center.

Through the years, this incredible apartment has had its share of big-shot owners, including Todd Wagner, billionaire and Mark Cuban business partner, who purchased it from Telcom mogul Michael Hirtenstein, who for a time rented the space to Jay-Z.

For a time, the penthouse was part of a proposed real-estate venture to create the most expensive apartment in Manhattan. According to the Wall Street Journal, real-estate brokers wanted to combine the 76th and 77th-floor condominiums and sell them to a very wealthy individual for a cool $73.5 million, which the buyer would pay in addition to the renovation required (a staircase) to combine the two.

Fortunately, for those of us who don’t have billions in the bank, the spaces stayed separate, and now apartment #76-B is about to get a new owner.
