Inventive Sophistication: KAGE’s Playful Womenswear

Launched in October 2009, KAGE is the creative brainchild of Dubai childhood friends Arwa Abdelhadi and Basma Abu Ghazaleh. A womenswear brand featuring feminine yet playful garments, Arwa and Basma have poured their passion and love into their increasingly popular fashion brand.

Originally Palestinian, both Arwa and Basma were born and raised in Dubai. While the designers have always been interested in fashion and design, each of them took different career paths. Arwa began university in Canada but quickly relocated to pursue a degree in psychology in Beirut. In addition, she also enrolled in courses in fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in
London. It was in London that she discovered her love for fashion. Her experience includes the position of Fashion Marketing Manager and in-house buyer for Chalhoub. There she was in charge of the accounts for Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Mulberry, Bonpoint, Paul & Joe and Celine, among others.

Basma began university at the American University of Beirut and then transferred to Northeastern University in Boston where she obtained a degree in Sociology and a minor in Communication. After graduation she moved to Paris where she attended a French immersion course for 6 months.
When she returned to Dubai Basma worked for the consumer and marketing division of Asdaa, one of the UAE’s leading public relations consultancies. She later joined her family business, Porcelain
International in the UAE as the head of the marketing department.

Basma and Arwa have merged their creative juices and diverse experiences to establish KAGE as one of the UAE’s most popular womenswear brands.  Their latest collection, Fun of the Fair, is
inspired by ideas for peace. Funky yet feminine garments include phrases from protest songs; references to Haight-Ashbury and turquoise Cadillac’s on Highway 66. The clothes beautifully re-instate the need for world peace.
