Save the Date: Maui Film Festival Under the Stars

The 12th annual Maui Film Festival may not boast a historic theater and celebrity-studded red carpet. But it’s got a 50-foot-wide screen on the Grand Wailea Resort golf course, showing nearly 50 of the best new releases under the stars with full digital sounds.

And if that’s not enough, there’s another screen on the golden sands of Wailea Beach fronting the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and another on the rooftop of the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

Hollywood’s got nothing on Maui.

This year’s festival, which runs from June 15 to 19, will showcase dozens of films, from studio productions to independent flicks, and include outdoor culinary events, moonlight dances, live music and the chance to meet some of Hollywood’s top actors. In past years the Four Seasons Resort Maui and the festival have hosted Zac Efron, Pierce Brosnan, Claire Danes, Jake Gyllenhaal, Owen Wilson, Zooey Deschanel, Mike Myers, Adrian Brody, Willie Nelson, Patricia Clarkson, William Hurt and Joan Allen.

Some of the films scheduled for viewing include the Oprah Winfrey-endorsed “I AM The Documentary,” the coming-of-age “Submarine,” and the U.S. premiere of surf filmmaker Jack McCoy’s “A Deeper Shade of Blue.

But it’s not just about the movies. The parties are worth the price of admission, too.

One of the festival’s highlights is the exclusive “A Taste of Chocolate,” one of the Unforgettable Events by the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. Maui’s first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star Resort throws a spectacular party with chocolate sculptures, chocolate fountains, chocolate martinis and other chocolate desserts.

Festival passes run from $40 to $595, with VIP Patron passes starting at $2,975.
