Haute Time: Shanghai Hosts Panerai’s “Time and Space: A Tribute to Galileo Galilei”
Officine Panerai launched its exhibition titled, “Time and Space: A Tribute to Galileo Galilei,” at the Shanghai Sculpture Space on May 19, to last through May 31. The exhibition is divided into three stages.
Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher Galileo Galilei is said to be the father of modern science. So it’s only natural that Italian watch brand, Officine Panerai, makers of complex luxury timepieces, pay homage to the great, whose shared love of science and innovation continues to inspire the brand.
Panerai launched its exhibition titled, “Time and Space: A Tribute to Galileo Galilei,” at the Shanghai Sculpture Space on May 19, and will last through May 31. The exhibition is divided into three stages. The first is Panerai’s history from its humble beginnings as a Florentine workshop to a preferred supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy. The second stage explores the company’s rise to international fame and displays the company’s most symbolic timepieces as well as selections from the latest collection. The third and final stage is a tribute to Galileo Galilei.
To mark the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s first celestial observations, Officine Panerai has unveiled the “astronomical” triptych, three exceptionally complex timepieces including the L’Astronomo, the Lo Scienziato, and the planetarium clock Panerai Jupiterium.
