Haute Fashion: Freitag Opens First U.S. Store in New York City

It all started with two brothers (Daniel and Markus), both design students in Zurich. The initial concept was innovative, rugged and sustainable: Construct modish, unique messenger bags using recycled truck tarpaulins. Thus, the DNA of Freitag was born. Since its inception, Freitag has expanded vastly to offer more than 40 styles and is stocked in more than 300 boutiques worldwide. With freestanding stores in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna Cologne, Zurich, and Davos—it was only a matter of time before the label’s urbane creations found their own mono-brand home in New York City. This month, Freitag has finally opened a flagship on the fringes of NoLita at 1 Prince St.

On May 4, Freitag hosted an intimate editor and friends preview of the new space that boasts a full array of customizable messengers, knapsacks, attachés, totes, duffels and keep-alls (which are still made in the same original factory in Switzerland, and hand-cut from used truck tarpaulin).

The Prince Street space has a modern, art gallery-like atmosphere and reflects not only life in the Bowery, but Freitag’s commitment to novelty and reusable materials.

The boutique has officially opened– and Freitag enthusiasts and skeptics alike– will be impressed by the endless, deluxe accessories that are in store.

Freitag is located at 1 Prince St at Bowery St, New York, NY.

Opening hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; closed Mondays.
