Haute Event: Dubai’s Fashion Crowd Celebrates the Grazia Style Awards

In order to celebrate the Dubai Fashion Industry properly, there needs to be a high dose of glamour; and last Wednesday night at the Grazia Style Awards, there was no shortage of supply. Held at the newly opened Ritz-Carlton, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the hotel’s understated luxury and elegance coupled with the dynamic nature of DIFC made it the perfect venue for the awards.

The Grazia Style Awards celebrate local talent, international retailers, designers and brands serving as barometer for what’s hot in the region for 2011. By giving the readers an opportunity to vote for the best shopping destination, favourite department store or best local designer, the awards ceremony can greatly increase the profile of not just the winner, but the nominees who can proudly encourage their followers to vote.

Ladies flaunting their haute couture abayas mixed with other guests wearing their best threads; Pucci, Lanvin and Gucci get-up was spotted and a sprinkling of McQueen was notably worn by the newly appointed editor of Grazia Middle East, Elaine Greenshields.  Fashion figure Henry Holland had jetted into Dubai to co-present the awards with Dubai One’s Rosemin Manji who kept guest entertained as they waited patiently for the results of the online votes to be announced.

One of the most anticipated categories to be announced was ‘Best Regional Designer’ with this year’s winner gaining the chance to exhibit their collection at the Middle East Fashion Days by Who’s Next  & Premiere Classe Paris happening later in the year. Fashion favourite Essa scored the highest votes from readers and will heading over to Paris in October.

Other commendable winners of the night was S*uce Boutique, who took home the title for Best Boutique for the fourth time and Boutique 1, which beat out stiff competition to be the winner of the Best Online Retailer.
