Haute Event: Tennis Superstar Novak Djokovic and GR8 Miami Host Fundraising Event for Japan

On Wednesday, March 23, the new Miami-based luxury concierge service company GR8 Miami teamed up with ATP World Tour #2 Singles player Novak Djokovic to host a fundraising event in response to the recent tragedies in Japan. The event, held during the first week of the Sony Ericsson Open, was preceded by a charity soccer match in which Djokovic and other ATP tennis stars took on our local pro soccer team, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

An exclusive after-party was held at JW Marriot Marquis Miami’s new 19th Floor Tennis Arena and was organized and sponsored by GR8 Miami. The evening featured a bevy of great fundraising opportunities such as donations to the Red Cross Japan disaster relief effort and an exciting silent auction, featuring the high-ticket item of a chance to take to the court with Djokovic himself, which took in more than $5,000 in itself. Also attending to lend his support for his homeland was Kei Nishikori, who has been raising funds through his own online auction, and ATP World #1 Rafael, proudly showing his support alongside his fellow tennis stars.

The event was a huge success and raised a great amount of well-needed funds to help those affected by the tragedies overseas. Barnabas Carrega, GR8 Miami’s co-founder, said, “We at GR8 Miami are very pleased with the support shown by everyone who attended our event and could not like think of a better partner than Novak and his team to support this worthy cause. I know everyone there believed they could make a difference, and I believe as a team we can make an even greater difference. In that spirit we are continuing to accept donations at our website and we encourage everyone to visit us at www.GR8Miami.com to donate.”
