Porsche Design’s New Moccasin Receives Red Dot Award 2011

In a competition focused on superior design quality, it was the timeless style and modern improvements on a classic look that earned luxury brand Porsche Design the world-renowned Red Dot Award in the ‘fashion and accessories’ category. This year, there were more entries than ever before, with a total of over 4,400 submissions from all over the world, and less than twenty percent of the applicants walking away with an award. Porsche Design submitted their new P’1700 Cannes moccasin for the competition, proving that simple lines and a sleek look can sometimes make a more powerful impact than overly styled products.

Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group, explained his reasoning behind the concept of their moccasin. He stated, “Our aim is not to follow fashion trends, but to create durable products – because trends come and go, but design is forever.” Constructed in a similar manner to that of a traditional moccasin, what really makes the Porsche Design P’1700 Cannes so unique is its asymmetrical, racing-inspired sole profile and aluminum insert in the sole, which provides an equally stylish and comfortable shoe, and the absence of any seaming in the sole. A familiar look but built with the type of technology to make the shoe stronger and more stable.

The Red Dot Awards ceremony will be held on July 4, 2011 in the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Germany, and will be followed shortly by the Red Dot Gala, the Winners’ Dinner, and Designers’ Night in the red dot design museum.
