HAutos: Rolls-Royce Premieres New Ghost Model in Shanghai

On Tuesday, April 19, for the first time ever in Asia, Rolls-Royce Motors debuted their new ultra-luxurious Ghost model at Auto Shanghai 2011, one of the world’s most esteemed auto shows.  A vision of elegant simplicity, the vehicle caters to drivers who want space and comfort without compromising the dynamism and poise that has become synonymous with the Rolls-Royce name. The plush new auto will be built to order and is only available in limited numbers until full production begins in 2012.

The award-winning, four-seater Ghost has been met with great demand since its worldwide launch in 2009. It features a Ghost Extended Wheelbase and is designed to be equally luxurious whether it is a car to drive or be chauffeured in. Even with additional interior space, the extended wheelbase ensures that the vehicle impeccably maintains balanced proportions and breathtaking contemporary design.

Increased interior space makes the model the ultimate in luxury and comfort. Legroom has been significantly enhanced to more than double compared to the standard Ghost. Design geared towards effortless entry and exit further establishes the vehicle’s comfort factor while a panoramic sunroof sets new precedents for interior ambiance and light.

Under the hood, the Ghost is as equally superior. Powered by the acclaimed Rolls-Royce Ghost 6.6-liter twin turbo charged V12 engine, the resulting drive produces an effortless 563hp and 780Nm of torque at only 1,500rpm. The Ghost Extended Wheelbase enables the car to shoot from 0-100km/h in a mere five seconds while intelligent four-corner air suspension maintains a harmonious balance between ride and handling.

Additionally, an exclusive China Edition Ghost has been displayed for the first time, indicating the company’s unique customizing capabilities for its growing Chinese market. The stunning custom edition features a consort red interior, gold twin-coachlines, gold-plated Spirit of Ecstacy, and stainless steel pinstripes. The model is available to order in limited quantities by discerning Chinese customers and is available in three exclusive paint colors, Deep Garnet, Black Ember, and Infinity. Further exclusive details are available in their Silver and Gold packages, along with a number of other features developed specifically for their Chinese market.

On their expansion into this new market, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös says, “This is the first time we have undertaken a world launch of a Rolls-Royce car in China, underscoring the strategic significance of this market and the Asia Pacific region. We expect to build on last year’s record growth, with further strong demand for Rolls-Royce models and a positive economic forecast throughout the region.”
