More than $300,000 was raised at the 15th Annual Sandra Day O’Connor Awards Luncheon this year, held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa and hosted by Arizona Foundation for Women. Honorees included tennis legend Billie Jean King, for her work to promote gender equality.
More than 650 members of the community gathered on Wednesday, April 20, at the Arizona Biltmore for the annual fundraiser — the only one in the state whose proceeds benefit exclusively Arizona women and children in need.
This year, Billie Jean King was honored with the Sandra Day O’Connor Award; fashion designer Eileen Fisher (who was unable to attend) was honored with the Voice of Women Award; and Phoenix Police Sgt. Chris Bray was honored with the Marilyn R. Seymann Award for his advocacy of the aggressive prosecution of sex traffickers and the compassionate treatment of victims.
The presentation of awards ended with Billie Jean King sitting down to a personal interview with Channel 12 News anchor Scott Light, who served as the luncheon’s emcee.
