Category: Entrepreneurs

Company: Perry Ellis International

Industry: Fashion

What Made Him Haute: George Feldenkreis found success as an importer, shortly after leaving Cuba. With the will to thrive, Feldenkreis established Supreme International in the late 1960’s. The company began small only importing guayabera shirts, but later grew exceptionally over the decades. Late in the 90’s, the company purchased the rights to Perry Ellis International. Today, Supreme International is but one division in the international company which also includes big names like Nike swimwear, Tommy Hilfiger ladies swimwear and PING collection to name a few.

What Makes Him Haute Now: As CEO and chairman of Miami-based Perry Ellis brand, George Feldenkreis has brought great success and fortune to the company. Today the apparel giant, Perry Ellis, is in talks to purchase Rafaella Apparel for a whooping $70 million. Feldenkreis thinks this a grand move to strengthen the company’s position in the women’s wear market. The purchase will also include the warrants to buy 106,564 shares of common stock from private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management. There is no doubt that with this move Perry Ellis will immediately become a more significant player in the women’s apparel industry and that is the goal Feldenkreis wants to achieve.
