Swim Meet: Designer Malia Mills Visits Fashion Island
While the rest of the country bundles up, the sun continues to shine here in Orange County and you’re probably still baring your bikini bod at Balboa Bay Club or the sands of Huntington Beach. So if you’re suit is getting staid, head to Fashion Island, where designer Malia Mills will make a rare personal appearance at her namesake swim boutique Dec. 11.
Born in Hawaii, where swimwear is a way of life, Malia Mills is now based out of New York City. But designer Mills had stints here in California working at Jessica McClintock and studied fashion is Paris, so the pedigree for fashion success was built right into her. Working with spandex and flattering cuts, her swimwear is renowned for its fit and fun, flirty look.
With stores nationwide (NY, Montecito, Brentwood, etc.) she’s gained a loyal following — Madonna even has a few suits. But Mills makes few appearances at her stores, so the event this Saturday, Dec. 11 is a rare one. Meet the designer and enter to win a $300 gift certificate while enjoying refreshments and seeing the latest swim and ready-to-wear collections. Every guest will get a special gift of $25 to put towards a new suit in the new year.
For more information on Malia Mills, visit the brand’s official web site at www.maliamills.com. The Malia Mills boutique is located at 271 Newport Center Dr., at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. For details on the event, call the boutique at 949.706.2002.
