Haute Giving: Warrick Dunn Foundation Gives Home To Family
We all love this time of year because of the glitz and glamour and giving. But all the Hermes scarves and Cartier bracelets cannot beat the feeling of giving back to those less fortunate. Former NFL star and founder of the Warrick Dunn Foundation (and my personal hero) does this better than anyone. Each year, he gathers support and supplies and finds a family in need of a new home. This year, a lucky family in Forrest Park, Ga., was surprised with a home built by Habitat for Humanity and fully furnished as part of the Warrick Dunn Holiday House Giveaway.
This presentation was particularly momentous, as it was the 100th home given to the needy by Warrick Dunn Foundation. To mark this momentous occasion former President Jimmy Carter was on hand as well as Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank to surprise the deserving family.
If you are not familiar with the Warrick Dunn Foundation, it is definitely something to check out. The Warrick Dunn Foundation is his honor to his late mother Betty Smothers who dreamed of one day owing her own house for her family. His aim is to find hardworking single mothers like his own and help their dreams become a reality. Each year the Warrick Dunn Foundation sponsors Home for the Holidays and rewards single-parent families with a fully furnished home.
While there are many great foundations with celebrity backings out there, Warrick Dunn truly exemplifies what it means to give back. The former NFL star and Falcon’s favorite may have retired his jersey and helmet, but he’s gaining speed with his foundation and has focused his energy on making a difference in many lives. Having personally met this amazing person, he is as humble and down to earth as anyone off the street.
Congratulations to the owners of the new house. For more information on the foundation, visit the website http://www.warrickdunnfoundation.org/.
