Family Event: Macy’s Pink Pig

Taking place outside Macy’s at Buckhead’s Lenox Square Mall, the Atlanta holiday tradition is back for more holiday fun, excitement and memories. National retail giant Macy’s brings its world-famous Pink Pig ride back to Atlanta to celebrate the 2010 holiday season in style. If you are an Atlanta native you most certainly have enjoyed this traditional event that is so well loved and historic that my Mom and aunts rode the Pink Pig back when they were younger. If you are new to the city or just haven’t yet had the pleasure of experiencing one of the most popular holiday events in Atlanta, then you absolutely must make this the year that you experience the magic that is the Macy’s Pink Pig.

The Pink Pig ride originated at the downtown Rich’s department store, but when that establishment closed its doors, it moved to its current home at Lenox Square, housed underneath the Pink Pig tent. Since debuting in 1953, grandparents, parents and children have all had the pleasure of sharing in the numerous family memories that are instantly created after just one ride on this iconic Atlanta treasure. For many Atlantans, once the Pink Pig arrives you know the holiday season is officially here. Today families board the train ride and are whisked away through the life-sized storybook land called A Pig’s Tale, which combines the wonderful ride with a lovely story that will resonate with adults and children alike.

The Pink Pig runs through January 2 and is available daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Rides are $3, with repeat rides priced at a discount of 2 rides for $5.50 and 3 rides for $7.50. For more information visit http://social.macys.com/believe2010/#/events/pink-pig
