The beloved classic returns to the Atlanta stage ready to envelope hearts with the magical and beautiful tale featuring the beloved “Sugar Plum Fairies.” Currently playing at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre through December 26, The Nutcracker is as synonymous with the holidays as Christmas trees, candy canes and snowmen. I don’t know of anyone who hasn’t seen this beautiful ballet that tells an enchanted tale that audiences of all ages and background have comes to love an appreciate for decades, Simply put, your holiday season is incomplete without this beloved gem providing a breathtaking visual of dance, song and lovely storytelling.
There is little to say about The Nutcracker that hasn’t already been said, but one thing is for certain, it is a quintessential American treasure that has enthralled audiences since its debut. Many ballet dancers get their first professional jobs as cast members of this groundbreaking production which has made superstars out of many past members of the cast. As a tried and true fan, some of my favorite elements of The Nutcracker are the beautiful costumes, elegant set designs and the melodic music that instantly evokes a sense of pleasure once the first few notes emerge.
This show is the perfect occasion to get all dressed up in your Sunday best and have dinner before making your way to the Fox Theatre for the ultimate ballet experience. If you are like me, seeing the show just once is never quite enough and luckily there are several showtimes between now and the end of its run on the 26th. Most performance times are held at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. depending on the day.
