Haute 100 New York Update: Alicia Keys

On our Haute 100 New York list is Alicia Keys, the award-winning artist who will grace Vogue Italia this December.

What Made Her Haute: This nine-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, musician, actress, and philanthropist became the first female to have an MTV Unplugged album to debut at No. 1. In June 2009, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers honored Keys with the Golden Note Award, which is given to artists “who have achieved extraordinary career milestones.” She is also the co-founder and Global Ambassador of Keep a Child Alive, a non-profit organization that provides medicine to families with HIV and AIDS in Africa. Keys was honored at the 2009 BET Awards with the Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic work. Her long-awaited third studio album, As I Am, is set for a worldwide release on November 13 on J Records.

What Makes Her Haute Now: Keys, who collaborated with Jay-Z on his renowned 2009 album The Blueprint 3, performed one of the hit songs, “Empire State of Mind” for the World Cup introduction ceremony in South Africa. She continues to makes strides of her own with her most recent album, The Element of Freedom. The album became her first to top the UK Albums Chart and features the No. 1 single “Unthinkable,” which has sold 1.4 million copies. The singer is now making a career move and teaming up with Red Light Management. Keys and her company, AK Worldwide, will oversee her music career in conjunction with RLM founder Coran Capshaw.

Keys is also featured in a new spread for Vogue Italia, which she originally posed for while pregnant with her son Egypt. The singer will grace the December issue in a multiple page spread in different designer looks and poses. The fashion that she sports in the spreads are some of the key trends for this season. One of the most provocative photos shows Keys wearing a leotard with numerous charms hanging from it.
