Name: John R. Keeler

Why he loves Miami: The friendly people, the weather and the atmosphere.
John R. Keeler came up with the idea for Blue Star Foods more than 15 years ago in his own Miami kitchen. Since that time, the company has grown into the leading crab meat company in the United States, and has even expanded into Europe and Asia. The company produces an average of over seven million pounds of crab meat each year. In 2003, Blue Star became the first company to use eco-friendly packaging for crab meat. Keeler also helped launch Blue Star TV on the company’s website, which features cooking video demonstrations by the award-winning chef Michael Schwartz. Over time, Blue Star Foods has proudly taken on the title as America’s Favorite Crab meat.
