Haute Flashes: Kimberly Jarman Photography

Are you in need of a photographer? We were recently graced with the opportunity to experience a photo session with the lovely Kimberly Jarman at her eponymously named studio in Mesa, and wow, were we ever blown away by how fun (and not at all awkward!) having our portrait taken could be.

What’s a girl to do when she’s in need of a photo in which her eyes aren’t closed or creepily red, her skin doesn’t appear too pink or too yellow, and there isn’t a telephone pole sticking out of the top of her head? She goes to a professional, that’s what. Such was the need of Haute Living Phoenix, and as it turns out, Kimberly was just our girl.

Capable of skillfully shooting weddings, families, high school seniors, lifestyle portraits and headshots for business professionals, models and actors, Ms. Kim is a photographer who not only knows her stuff, but also knows how to give the overall experience a special je ne sais quoi that just can’t be replicated.

The Kimberly Jarman studio is located in historic Downtown Mesa, in a space that’s just as darling as can be. Walk through the doors into a world of prettiness, with stylish yet simple feminine decor, bright white walls and of course, gorgeous prints by the phenom herself at every turn.

Talented creatives and gracious hostesses, Kimberly and her office manager, JennyP, had music and mimosas ready and waiting to get the morning’s photo session off to a fun start. After a short consultation with regard to wardrobe and shooting locations, we were ready to go!

Some fantastic qualities of Kimberly’s are her sense of humor and ability to remain totally professional yet keep the time with her clients relaxed, rather than make it into the kind of stiff and formal affair we remember our high school senior portrait time being. Awesome for us, because if we had to haul around camera equipment under the Arizona sun and be congenial at the same time, we’d most likely fail. Clearly, she loves what she does.

As we snapped photos in and around her studio, Kimberly enthusiastically explained the importance of finding the right light and pointed out that sometimes it could be found in places you might never think to look, like a partially underground staircase or under the eave of a parking garage. Through her lens, these unusual settings can result in a finished product that’s unique and stunning.

After studying film production and earning her degree in marketing from ASU, Kimberly nurtured her love for photography and poured everything she’d learned into fulfilling her dream of opening her own successful studio. She continues to grow professionally by participating in conferences and workshops that focus on both the creative and business-related sides of photography.

In 2008, Kimberly and her husband, Jamie, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Kailee. Which means she understands firsthand the importance of documenting special family moments (particularly when it comes to bringing home new additions!) and can be booked for baby, child, family, maternity and even pet sessions to create images and memories that you’ll cherish for years.

Kimberly’s images have appeared in Arizona Bride Magazine, The Wedding Chronicle, Phoenix Bride and Groom, Destination I Do, and several industry blog sites. You can learn more about her and her work online here. And if you schedule a session, be prepared for this dynamo to crack that shell of yours (as nicely as possible, of course) and get you the incredible photos you never knew you were capable of taking.

Kimberly Jarman Photography is located at 126 W. Main Street in Mesa  480.203.1090
