Tina Fey, Jon Hamm and TV’s Ultimate Prom Night

Tonight was television’s night of nights, the Primetime Emmy Awards. This is the one award show where television doesn’t have to share with the film people (see Golden Globes, SAG Awards, etc) and it can be all about them. The usual suspects were there, (Tina Fey, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) but tonight belonged (mostly) to the new kids on the block. Jane Lynch won for “Glee”. That dude from the CBS show “Big Bang Theory” won too — making nerds the world over jump for joy. The Governor’s Ball – the absolute must see and do first stop — was beautiful…but looked a little like the prom. All that was missing was my corsage and a slow dance; though the shoes I was wearing really weren’t going to go there.
Grey Goose provided the vodka; the bars that dotted the perimeter were basically giant ice sculptures. Disco balls large and small dotted the dance floor and the mood lighting was a subtle shade of blue.
Celebs dined and schmoozed for a good two hours before jetting off to what would be the first of many celebratory soirees: AMC’s (SOHO HOUSE), HBO’s bash (PAC DESIGN CENTER) and Fox’s partay downtown…which is funny there seemed to be an over abundance of GLEEfully happy actors at HBO…

Suffice to say, it didn’t matter where you ended up; there was good food all around and a happy go lucky ‘tude across the board. Jon Hamm might not have won Best Actor (he lost to Bryan Cranston) but that didn’t stop him from celebrating — Mad Men garnered the big win of the night — Best Drama Series, along with Best Writing for a Drama for creator Matthew Weiner.

Sadly, nothing for Tina Fey, though for the first time in awhile, she really pulled out all the stops and looked fffab.
