Dori’s World
New York society staple Dori Cooperman takes readers on a behind the scenes look into some of the most exclusive events around the world.
My trip to Europe was a whirlwind! I had such a wonderful couple of weeks and was able to catch up with a lot of old friends.
We flew direct to Nice, where we then took a helicopter ride to get to St. Tropez. I was a little jet-lagged, but more so excited to let the week of festivities (including my birthday celebration) begin!
The night before my birthday, I celebrated at Simon and Joyce Reuben’s villa in St. Tropez with their daughter Lisa Reuben, who is my good friend. We then headed to Le Cave du Roi at midnight to ring in my official birthday. My friends Paris and Nicky Hilton were there to join me along with Low Taek Jho, and we danced to the music of the famous DJ Jackie. Joyeux Anniversaire à moi!
I celebrated my actual birthday the next day at sea. My friend Inga Rubenstein threw myself and her husband, Keith, our annual joint birthday party on Michael Tabor’s boat, Hurricane Run. Rebecca Lester, Natalie Von Bismarck, Jonathan Lourie, Jason Pomeranc, Rena Sindi, Nicolas Berguen, Goga Ashkenazi, Tamara Beckwith, Dino Lalvani, Cynthia and Henry Gabay, Ulla Parker, Nick Candy, Hofit Golan, and Maria Buccelatti were just a few of my friends who came to celebrate. That night we all headed to the annual Flower Power party.
The next few nights were jam-packed with various annual house parties from Thomas Leclerc’s (where I ran into Richard LeFrak and Sonny Marlboro), to Cynthia and Claude Ott’s and Sabrina Giuliani’s (amazing party with crazy dancers!). Lastly, I attended Denise Rich’s annual party aboard her yacht, M.Y. Lady Joy and it was a blast! Denise was so nice and had her captain sail over on their tender a lovely bracelet for me for my birthday gift.
Next, we flew to Portofino, Italy, which was absolutely beautiful, but of course had to come back to St. Tropez for the biggest party of the summer! It’s at a friend’s house that he turns into a disco. The house is unbelievable and you can get there by car or by boat.
After all of the partying, it was nice to have some time to relax and sightsee! My friend Barry Gesser chartered us a gorgeous a yacht called Salu. Jennifer Raines joined us for a few nights too as we sailed around the French Riviera with a stop at Hotel Du Cap in Antibes and a stop in Monte Carlo, where we saw Elton John in concert.
Next stop – Athens! I met up with my friend Nicole Kvortos and hung out at her beautiful beach house. Our first night in Athens we met up with Marina Livanos and her family at Nobu in Athens. I love all Nobus but this one on the water was spectacular!
The next morning, Nicole and I were off to Mykonos where we met up with Peter, Elizabeth, and Tara Guber and the rest of their family. The remainder of my time in Mykonos was spent with friends like Brian Atwood, Lord Robert Hanson, and Robert Hissom. In addition to a ton of days on different yachts, we also went out to so many delicious lunches and dinners (the food is Greece is incredible!)
After a week in Greece, it was time to say goodbye. Europe was so much fun, and I cherished every second of it, but I was also excited to fly back to the US – not to New York, but to LA! I’m here right now visiting my wonderful family and my friend Alex Von Furstenberg. My friend Lizzie Tisch is meeting me here and we are going with Caryn Zucker to the Emmys! But the stories from my adventures in the City of Angels will have to wait until next time!
