Haute 100 Los Angeles Update: Dr. Jerry Buss

Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These people continue to make moves, so rather than waiting for the next Haute 100 issue to come out, we thought we’d provide you with regular updates on those Haute 100 members who are making headlines. Check back daily for more info on the most powerful people in your city. Today, the owner of the L.A. Lakers Dr. Jerry Buss proves that numbers don’t lie (with the exception of his age, of course).

Category: Entrepreneurs

Industry: Basketball

Company: L.A. Lakers

What Made Him Haute: The Lakers have flourished under his ownership, winning eight world championships. His 1979 purchase of the team (along with other entities) for $69 million was the largest transaction in sports history at the time.

What Makes Him Haute: With now nine NBA Championships under his ownership, 79-year-old Dr. Jerry Buss is obviously doing something right. The Miami Heat may be trying to threaten the Lakers’ dynasty, but Haute Living is keeping the Lakers faith, which is why we’ve put Buss on the cover of our upcoming Haute Living Los Angeles edition, despite the fact that he notoriously doesn’t do interviews. His daughter Jeannie, who is also the team’s executive vice president of business operations, told us that her father has no plans of retiring. Um, LeBron who?
