Why You Shouldn’t Miss the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ 2010-11 Season

The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ 2010-2011 season begins July 28, which means now is the perfect time to pick your shows and start securing tickets.

This season’s Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts schedule once again encompasses a multitude of delights in the areas of music, theater, dance, and art, including some spectacular large events, such as the annual Scottsdale Arts Festival, the “Native Trails” celebration of the first nations of Arizona, and the “La Gran Fiesta,” a celebration of hispanic heritage and culture, which will include a performance by the Spanish Harlem Orchestra (comprised of musicians from Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela) and a family festival on the Scottsdale Mall lawn.

Musicians coming to Scottsdale this season include the bluesy Lyle Lovett, the bluegrass-lovin’ Steve Martin, and the jazzy Doc Severinsen. Catch the Celtic ensemble Danu, acclaimed pianist Yuja Wang, and Michael Feinstein and his swing band performing some of Frank Sinatra’s most popular tunes. Also, if you haven’t yet seen and heard Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” performed live and up close and personal, the time has come. And Arizonans will jump at the chance to witness live the works and humor of John Lithgow, Jeffrey Tambor, David Sedaris, and political humor troupe The Capitol Steps.

Not-to-be-missed performers for 2010-2011 include the legendary Count Basie Orchestra, the gravity-bending acrobatic troupe Diavolo, Tony Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater singing Billie Holiday songs, and the radiant Bernadette Peters, whose concert will be this December, and for which guests have the option of purchasing tickets that include admittance to the pre-concert reception, performance, and dinner in one convenient package. We’re also looking forward to October’s “Dine Out with the Chefs,” where guests will get to interact with some of the Valley’s most acclaimed culinary whizzes and taste plenty of their creations.

Visit the SCPA site for the complete schedule and ticket information. Also, buy tickets to three or more performances and receive a free ticket to a performance of your choice from a list of select shows.
