Dubai World Central Al-Maktoum International: The World’s Largest Airport Sets to Open

News | June 26, 2010

With the world’s tallest building, plans for the tallest arch bridge by 2012, it is indeed not surprising that Dubai is now set to open the largest airport, Dubai World Central Al-Maktoum on June 27th.

The airport will first open for cargo carriers with passenger operations to begin by the end of March 2011. An Emirates Airline carrier was the first to land its aircraft on the new runway as part of the final preparations for the launch.

The first phase of the world’s largest airport will feature an A380 capable runway, 64 remote stands, one cargo terminal with annual capacity for 250,000 tones of cargo and a passenger terminal building which will accommodate 5 million passengers per year. Upon completion the airport will have five runways, four terminal buildings, and enough space to fit for 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo. You cannot get much bigger than that!
