Miuccia Prada’s Eccentric Miu Miu Opens at Crystals
Upscale shopping just got a little more eccentric now that Miu Miu opened at Crystals at CityCenter. The kid sister to Prada has been a go-to for fashionistas who want a little edge to their looks.
Designer Miuccia Prada favors sexy silk dresses, mod prints and funky heels in this quirky line. Since its launch in 1992, Miu Miu has blended sophistication with the eclectic. While it may be a lower-priced offshoot of the signature Prada line, it still draws fashion icons such as Nicole Kidman and Chloë Sevigny. Even celebrities like Katie Holmes, Kirsten Dunst and Maggie Gyllenhaal have leant their images to the line in advertising campaigns.
Since coming on the scene, Miu Miu has grown up into a personality all its own. “This change signifies that Miu Miu is no longer content to be the bratty kid sister of Prada, the elegant snob,” said Cintra Wilson of the New York Times. “Miu Miu wants her own room now; she doesn’t care anymore if Prada thinks she’s tacky. She’s a little overweight and doesn’t give a damn. She knows how to party, defy parental supervision and skinny-dip in hotel pools.”
The store joins the ranks of the fifth largest Louis Vuitton store in the world, Lanvin, Tom Ford and Roberto Cavalli at Crystals. The 1,640-square-foot boutique designed by Roberto Baciocchi separates goods into three distinct areas — women’s wear, shoes and accessories — that like the fashion line celebrate a free and independent style. Rich architectural elements bring a luxurious sense of freedom and intimacy to the shopping experience. The walls and ceiling feature Miu Miu’s signature damask fabric as wallpaper.
Yes, your closet is about to become a little more hip.
