Hot Shots: Take Your Best Shot Against Cancer at Coaches vs. Cancer

Get your best jump shots ready to go head-to-head with the coaches of the Mountain West Conference when the American Cancer Society comes to the Palms May 23. Since 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer, founded by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has generated more the $25 million for the American Cancer Society.

The event kicks off with the Party at the Palms in the Hardwood Suite where guests can challenge coaches during the Hot Shot Basketball Challenge on the suite’s basketball court. Eight of the nine coaches from the Mountain West are scheduled to be at the party including: UNLV’s Lon Kruger, BYU’s Dave Rose, New Mexico’s Steve Alford, San Diego State’s Steve Fisher, Colorado State’s Tim Miles, Utah’s Jim Boylen, TCU’s Jim Christian and Wyoming’s Heath Shroyer. Kansas State’s Frank Martin and former UNLV coaches Jerry Tarkanian and Charlie Spoonhour, along with other coaches from across the nation, will join in the event as well. Entry fee for the competition is $50 with all proceeds going to help the American Cancer Society’s effort to provide free summer camps for children with cancer.

Dress up in your favorite game-day gear and enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. in the 10,000-square-foot suite.

The charity drive continues with two golf tournaments on Monday, May 24, at TPC Summerlin and Tuesday, May 25, at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Taking part in the two-day golf event will be UNLV legend Larry Johnson and future Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux.
