Haute Alert: Preview Judith Leiber’s Fall 2010 Collection

Handbag aficionados, rejoice: Judith Leiber is offering appointments for the ultimate preview of her Fall 2010 collection at her Madison Avenue locale. Leiber has so generously decided to showcase her newest creations including bags, belts, gloves, and minaudieres, and is taking reservations for some exclusive time in the boutique on Thursday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Couture and Crystal Classics is the first collection under the direction of JL’s newest designer, and the designer bags and clutches have been scooped up by some of our favorite celebrity faces.

Those who love Leiber’s designs know her incredible life story, which entails escaping the Holocaust in World War II because her father was able to obtain a Swiss schutzpass for a safe passage out of Germany. That pass that saved Leiber’s life is on display in Washington D.C.

It wasn’t until after the war that Leiber was able to begin her love affair with fashion accessories. She began designing handbags at home and then at a friend’s small factory shortly after. Leiber met and married an American soldier in 1948. That same year she immigrated to the land of opportunity and continued her designs stateside, founding her own company in 1963.

The Judith Leiber label is the epitome of luxury, and she is famous for her minaudieres that are drenched in crystals. Her cupcake minaudiere was featured in the fashion-centric movie Sex and the City. However, we would prefer her bags featured on our arms.
