The Fairmont San Francisco

Nestled on the top of Nob Hill, the century-old Fairmont is a must-see for all locals and guests alike, even if it is only to sneak a peek at the ultra-glamorous lobby. Complete with vaulted ceilings and Corinthian columns, those looking to marvel in decadence for a day can pop into Laurel Court. Laurel Court restaurant and lounge provides afternoon tea for guests and visitors, and serves as the lobby’s centerpiece. Those in the mood for something more tropical can head to the Tonga Room, where it “rains” every 30 minutes.

The Palace Hotel

There is a no other way to experience San Francisco style than a visit to the Palace. Lovers of old luxury know that The Palace is synonymous with high style. The original 1875 Palace was a top glamour spot in San Francisco. After it was nearly destroyed in the fire of 1906, it was renovated in the early 1990s. The regal lobby floors are made of marble while the famous Garden Court, which has Austrian crystal chandeliers, potted palms set under the epic 80,000-pane stained glass dome is now an official city landmark.

The centerpiece of the lobby is a 35-foot fireplace with a bronze chimney sculpture by Gerard Garouste. Surrounding the fireplace are chairs from Ray and Charles Earnes and a sculpture custom made by William Sawaya. Also located in lobby is the renovated Redwood Room, which is bordered by the Asian-Latin restaurant, Asia de Cuba.
